Together the renegade crew and passengers of Serenity make up a special dynamic as they travel through space, taking on jobs that are mostly illegal and usually quite odd to stay ahead of the alliance and keep food on the table. Most of all, they aim to misbehave and with the sky being the limit and all, when it's all about spaceships, the title is obvious and fun!

Mal (played by Nathan Fillion) is the captain of Serenity and former Independent fighter. He is mysterious and cares deeply but somewhat secretly for his ragtag crew.

Zoe (played by Gina Torres) is second-in-command onboard Serenity, and a wartime friend and co-fighter of Mal. She is married to Wash. She is something of a "warrior woman".

Wash (played by Alan Tudyk) is Serenity's pilot and Zoe's husband. He joined the crew much to Zoe's dislike, as revealed in a flashback.

Inara (played by Morena Baccarin) is a Companion, some kind of 26th century courtesan. She and Mal have a difficult relationship, with each of them playing a very significant role in the other's life.

Jayne (played Adam Baldwin) is not the brightest fish in space. He joined the crew solely out for monetary gain.

Kaylee (played by Jewel Staite) is the ship's mechanic. She is sweet and has a crush on Simon.

Simon (played by Sean Maher) is a former trauma surgeon who is on the run after breaking his sister River out of a government research facility

River (played by Summer Glau) was smuggled onto the ship by her brother who was experimented upon leaving her unstable but somewhat psychic.

Book (played by Ron Glass) is a Shepherd whose past we never learn of- but evidently there is something to know behind his calm exterior.
